Where are the TV networks?

The tragedy in the southern gulf looks like it might be the greatest disaster in US history. The cable news has been 24/7 since before the storm. But where are NBC, CBS and ABC?

Is Dr. Phil really more important that tens of thousands of lives? Remember that the big 3 are the only "over the air" networks which is especially important in areas without power. Last night they showed football for god sakes.

After 9/11 it was a week of non-stop coverage.

Am I being crazy here?

The Gang of 14 Deal = Chief Justice Scalia?

With the Gang of 14 fillabuster deal, I think we'll get Chief Justice Scalia. Get used to it. It could have been worse. The right wing wanated Thomas as CJ.

The real fight is who will fill Scalia's seat...another Thomas (very very bad) or (hope of hope) another Bryer...

Everyone knows by now that the fillabuster fight was really of SCoUS spots.

The deal doesn't look that bad. I know folks don't like Owens and Brown. I don't either. I haven't looked yet but the deal to essentially allow their confirmation may look good depending on what the current make-up is on the courts they've been nominated to.

With the CJ heading to retirement in a few weeks this was always about filling his spot. Scalia is a right wing whack job but, as any lawyer knows he is a very smart man who can be pragmatic from time to time. Thomas on the other hand, is an idiot completely controlled by his right wing nut job law clerks. He tows the right wing party line 100% of the time. For this reason alone (and there are many others) he would be totally unacceptable as CJ.

Scalia's confirmation to CJ should be relatively easy. The real fight now is to fill the Associate Justice spot. Bush will try and get the most conservative nut job in there and we'll need the fillabuster on that one (I speculate that a Gonzalez nomination satisfies the "extraordinary circumstances" language)......
